Chizhou is located in the southwest of Anhui Province, on the south bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.It was established as a prefecture and set up a government in the fourth year of the Wudeera(a reign title) of the Tang Dynasty (621 AD),with a history of more than 1,400 years. In 2000, Chizhou was established as a municipality，having jurisdiction over Guichi District, Dongzhi, Shitai andQingyang County, Jiuhua Mountainand Pingtian Lake Scenic Area，andJiangnan Emerging Industrial Development Zone, nationalChizhou Economicand Technological Development Zone. With a total area of 8,399 square kilometers and a registered population of 1.59 million (permanent population of 1.324 million) at the end of 2024, it has won honors such as China Top Tourist City, National Garden City, National Forest City, China Habitat Environment Award andNational Model City for“Double Support”. In 2024,its total regional GDP increased by 6.3%, rankingthird in Anhui province in terms of growth rate; the added value of industries above designated scale increased by 12.1%, ranking second in the province in terms of growth rate; the general public budget revenue increased by4.5%, rankingthird in the province in terms of growth rate;the balance of domestic and foreign currency loans of financial institutions increased by 16.8%, ranking first in the province;the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents increased by4.8% and 7.0% respectively, rankingsixth and thirdin the province in terms of growth rate.
